Firefox Download Record

Mozilla have set a new world-record for the most downloads in one day.

The record has been recognised by Guinness World Records with a total 8,002,530 downloads of the new Firefox 3.0 browser recorded on 17th and 18th June 2008.

However, it wasn't all plain sailing - the Mozilla servers struggled to cope with demand early into the record attempt with many downloads slowing to a crawl and some servers failing to response for over an hour.

Nevertheless, the initial problem was quickly rectified and the challenge continued with over 9000 downloads per minute at the peak period!

Mozilla has subsequently announced that it has gained significant market-share of Internet Explorer with more that 19% of users now using the Firefox browser.
